Gliding through sun-soaked streets and festival fields, pirate radio host The Pussy Tamer (aka Uncle Pete) is on a mission to find the perfect vibration.
Featuring oversized egos, local psychedelic reporters, soulful vocals and Uncle Pete’s magical belly, the crew surf the frequencies of a temporary radio station, trying desperately not to lose. the. siiigggnaaaaal.
Drawing on the anarchic spirit of pirate radio, [ON AIR] uses live broadcast as both stage and scenography. The work collides the intimate language of late-night radio with live performance, where personal confession, fantasy and public address become entangled.
Airing dreamy fantasies, strange encounters, declarations of love and political manifestos, the work explores masculinity as performance and the airwaves as a space where alternative worlds can be talked into being.
Co-created with an ensemble of drag performers, circus artists and musicians, [ON AIR] unfolds as a live transmission somewhere between cabaret, radio play and outdoor spectacle.
